Restart the Modem and Router
Most of the time, internet connectivity issues can be resolved easily by restarting your modem and router. It is the easiest and most convenient fix that almost works all the time.
To restart your modem and router, unplug the power cable for about 10 seconds and then plug it in again. The modem and router will take some time to reboot.
Once the router has rebooted, check your internet connection again and test the speed to see if it is working. This might help restore the lost Broadband connection on your modem. If this doesn’t help you in bringing back your internet connection, then move to the other tips listed below.
Check Your Modem/Router
Almost all of the routers and modems now have status lights blinking on them. These LED lights allow you to quickly diagnose the specific network problem that you might be facing. First, check the internet signal light on your modem, which is usually labeled as WAN, Internet, or a globe icon.

If this light is on, then it means that you might not have any internet signals issue, but if it’s red or not on at all, then it means that you have an internet signals issue and your modem isn’t able to get any signals from the back. This is the time to call your internet provider!
Next, check the WiFi light(s) on your modem. These will be somewhere near the internet connectivity light and are usually labeled as 2.4G, 5G, WLAN, or Wireless. In a normal scenario, these lights are on and blinking, but if these lights are red or not on at all, then this means that you are experiencing a Wi-Fi-specific issue.
Check for Internet Outage
An Internet power outage can be the culprit behind a bad internet connection in your area. In this scenario, you won’t be the only one out of internet coverage in your area. But if the internet signals are showing worse on the modem, you must check with your neighbors first if they are also having connectivity issues or not!
With this, the website that you are trying to open might also be down. To cater to this issue, you must check with a few other websites to ensure if it is an internet-related problem or a service provider side’s issue.
Run Internet Troubleshooter (Windows), Apple Diagnostics Or Apple Hardware Test
Windows and Apple devices have built-in programs that can be used to troubleshoot internet connectivity problems.
If you are using Windows 10 system,
then click on Start > Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot and then select troubleshooter for internet connectivity issues.
On Mac, disconnect the ethernet cables and external drives (if any), and then restart your system. Hold the D key when the computer is rebooting, pick the language, and the diagnostic will be launched automatically.
Apple hardware tests can be launched similarly; the difference is just that you will press the return or right arrow key while the system reboots.

Clear DNS Cache
The DNS cache might create technical issues if there is any error or an uninvited online malware has started inserting URLs into your cache.
Clear Cache For Windows
- Open the command prompt,
- Type “cmd” in the search bar.
- Type “ipconfig/flushdns” and hit the enter button to remove the cache.
Clear Cache For Mac
- Open the terminal app.
- The following commands can be entered depending on your mac’s OS. These are as follows:
o For Yosemite or Later: sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder
o For Yosemite 10.10 to 10.10.3: sudo discoveryutil mdnsflushcache
o For Mountain Lion, Lion, and Mavericks: sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder
o For Snow Leopard: sudo dscacheutil -flushcache
- Enter the admin credentials for your account, and your cache will be removed.
Call Your Internet Provider
If none of the above suggestions work to resolve your internet connectivity issue, you must then call your internet provider to complain. Your internet provider might help you in resolving the issue yourself or can send a support team to your place to check and resolve the issue for you.
